A combination of computer science, electronics, control systems and mechanics, mechatronics is one of the country's fastest-growing industries. It's engineering for the 21st century, and it's happening at UNC Asheville.
A collaborative program between UNC Asheville and NC State, the mechatronics degree is the only one of its kind offered in North Carolina. At its core, mechatronics involves using computers to operate machinery. Graduates are in high demand in a variety of fields, from robotics to consumer software to national defense. Industry leaders say our mechatronics graduates are uniquely prepared to execute a variety of tasks and projects.
"Mechatronics engineers understand both the electrical and mechanical part of the industrial systems we provide," said Kevin Russell, general manager of material handling at TMEIC. "They come into our business ready to contribute immediately to the work assigned. They are an important part of the growth of our company."
By making a gift to mechatronics, you ensure that students have the skills and tools they need to become lifelong innovators. Your support of the mechatronics program at UNC Asheville creates opportunities for American manufacturing and american innovation and translates into more high paying engineering jobs for our region, which strengthens our economy.
