Statistics show that the average student who earns an associate’s degree will make 35% more over his/her lifetime than a student with only a high school diploma. In addition, a worker with a bachelor’s degree will earn 45% more than one with an associate’s degree.
Each year, more than 100 qualified students transfer to UNC Asheville from A-B Tech. More than 1,500 A-B Tech transfer students have graduated from UNC Asheville since 1985, which is 9% of the total UNC Asheville alumni population.
While transfer students have proven academic ability, they often have significant challenges paying for college. UNC Asheville and A-B Tech want to change that through the CORE (Connecting Opportunities for Regional Excellence) Scholarship Partnership, which helps qualified students continue their trajectory toward academic excellence and connects them to employment opportunities in our region. The CORE Scholarship Partnership will provide students with a full scholarship at A-B Tech for two years, while earning an associate’s degree and for two years at UNC Asheville, while completing their bachelor’s degree. The CORE Scholarship Partnership program also encourages local businesses and individuals to invest in the success of the CORE Scholars by providing professional internships and, eventually, full-time employment upon graduation.
The CORE Scholarship Partnership not only benefits the local student community, but it also positively impacts our local economy. Many transfer students are already a part of the community workforce. The combined education, skills and experience students acquire at A-B Tech and UNC Asheville will make them more valuable employees and leaders in the community.
